Carbon offset standards

There are various standards by which the creation and usage of carbon credits are monitored. Currently, there are no binding, worldwide guidelines for creating carbon credits. Standards are set by verification entities and carbon offset companies. The most popular include:
- Verified Carbon Standard (overseen by a company called Verra)
- Gold Standard
- Climate Action Reserve
- American Carbon Registry (ACR)
- GSS Cert
