Carbon positive framework is a term used predominantly in marketing to describe the amount of carbon released by an object, entity, venue, company, building etc. It can relate to any carbon-producing object or action. The term was coined by William McDonough in relation to carbon positive cities and buildings. It describes a new approach towards carbon, in which the liability of atmospheric carbon should be reduced, and the earthbound carbon should increasingly gain importance and treated as an asset. A carbon positive building is one that produces more electricity than it consumes and shares the excess energy with the city grid.
