High-quality carbon offsets are CO2 emission reduction credits created following the highest available standards. Under the guidelines, high-quality carbon credits must result from the reduction or neutralization of greenhouse gases:

  • under projects that were created for sequestration purposes only
  • as part of projects with a detailed level of CO2e sequestration estimation
  • permanent projects
  • made on a one-off basis in a documented manner to prevent multiple counting of the same carbon offset for two different purchasing entities
  • arising from projects with positive environmental and social impacts.
