Carbon budget

From TerGoPedia

Carbon budget – a key indicator for climate protection. Its value tells us how much carbon dioxide we can put into the atmosphere if we want the temperature rise to stop at a certain level and to meet the climate protection goal as agreed in the Paris Agreement (2015).

One can talk about the carbon budget: total, which tells you what total amount of CO2 can be put into the atmosphere to keep the temperature below a certain threshold residual, which is used to emphasize that it is the total carbon budget minus the amount of carbon dioxide we have already emitted.

The global carbon budget is not utilized yet, but little time is left to use it.
