One of the cryptographic mechanisms operating within the consensus algorithm in a blockchain network. This operation is based on selecting specific data/attributes and confirming their state.

The PoS algorithm presents itself as a greener alternative to the PoW algorithm because it consumes much less electricity than PoW.
