The planetary health diet
The planetary health diet is an environmentally low-impact way of eating with health benefits. Its composition varies depending on the latitude in which it is used, but everywhere it will be based primarily on locally and seasonally available foods. The basis of the diet is to reduce the intake of animal products (meat, dairy, eggs) and increase the proportion of vegetable and legume products.
The diet was developed by the EAT-Lancet Commission, as part of a report [1] published in the scientific journal The Lancet on January 16, 2019.
The planetary health diet is expected to help[2]:
– feed the global population (which is projected to reach 10 billion people by 2050)
– reduce the worldwide number of death caused by poor diet
– sustainably produce food and minimize the environmental impact of the crops.
