A term used to describe a set of commercial transactions conducted over the Internet (online). This business model is based solely on selling goods and services online. Users can purchase products and services using any Internet-connected device, such as a computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Similarly to traditional commerce, e-commerce operates in four main segments, namely business-to-business (B2B), business-to-consumer (B2C), consumer-to-consumer (C2C), and consumer-to-business (C2B).
