A green project (offsetting project) is created to absorb greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. Green projects generate carbon offsets, or CO2e reduction units, with which it is possible to offset (neutralize) CO2 emissions.

There are several types of green projects. The most common are:

  • agroforestry projects focused on reforestation of former farmland or otherwise damaged by human activity or natural forces
  • conservation projects aimed at preserving existing ecosystems and protecting the biodiversity found there
  • projects linked to the generation of energy from renewable sources.
